€112,000 Town & Village Renewal Funding
Milltownpass Tidy Towns have secured €112,000 under the Town & Village Renewal Scheme (TVRS) for public realm enhancements, including new approach road signage and raised beds, new hanging basket poles and seating areas, and a new green space in the village for the community to enjoy!
In late 2022 Milltownpass Tidy Towns received word that our application to secure funding under the Town & Village Renewal scheme had been successful. This was a big deal for Milltownpass as it had been many years since our streetscape or public realm had seen any level of investment. Securing this funding represented a significant enabler of our Tidy Towns 3 to 5 year plan and was warmly welcomed by our Committee.
The total funding secured under TVRS is €100,800 with a match funding requirement of €11,200 bringing the total project cost to €112,000! Westmeath County Council have agreed to cover half of this match fund requirement (€5,600) with Milltownpass Tidy Towns to raise the other half (€5,600). The official letter of offer was recieved by us in late 2023 which will allow the funds to be released and we have until October 2024 to complete the project.
Our project has three main pillars:
Street Furniture & Public Realm Enhancements
Greenspace Development
New Village Entrance Signs & Planting Schemes
Street Furniture & Public Realm Enhancements
A total of €65,000 of the project budget is allocated under this pilar. This will include things such as cast iron hanging basket poles for planting along with more public seating, benches and planting in strategic spots around the village to allow the community to sit back and enjoy their surrounds.
Greenspace Development
A total of €32,000 of the project budget is allocated under this pillar. The new green space will be located along the public walkway beside Milltown River and opposite the exercise equipment. The space will provide raised planting, landscaping, seating and wildlife signage to allow our community a tranquil place to relax and unwind with the sound of the water flowing by.
New Village Entrance Signs & Planting Schemes
A total of €15,000 of the project budget is allocated under this pillar. Existing village entrance signage will be replaced by newly commissioned artisan entrance welcome signage to enhance the visual aesthetic upon entering the village. The new signage will be erected in newly built raised stone flower beds with beautiful planting in order to provide a positive first impression.
All aspects of this project will go through a tender process with a focus on local trade and craftspersons.
