Well we never in our wildest dreams imagined this would be our first blog post as we launch our shiny new website, but here we are and we couldn't be more proud and honoured to receive these awards! This was our first time ever to win a National Award in the Tidy Towns Competition and we're very grateful to our hard working volunteers, to our local community, to local businesses and schools, to Westmeath County Council, Westmeath Community Development, the PPN, Therese Kelly of the National Parks and Wildlife service (NPWS), and last but certainly not least to Basil Mannion and Cathal Flood of the Local Authority Waters Program (LAWPRO) for their help and support in making this a reality for us. Read on to find out a bit more about each of our wins.
National and Regional Water and Communities Award Winners
The Tidy Towns Waters and Communities Award was introduced to the competition in 2017 as a means to recognise communities who are taking positive steps towards raising awareness and showing appreciation of their local rivers, lakes, streams, canals and coast. Prizes are awarded to each of four regional winners and four regional highly commended groups. Out of these 8 groups one group will win the overall National Award. This year not only were Milltownpass Tidy Towns chosen as the Midlands and East Regional award winners, but we also won the National Award!!!

County Westmeath Endeavour Award Winners
The purpose of the endeavour Award is to recognise the biggest improvement by an entrant in each county from the previous year. In this years competition we gained a total of 15 points making us the Westmeath County Endeavour Award winners for 2023!
While we did make gains across the board, the majority of our gains came from the following 3 categories:
Community - Your Planning and Involvement.
Nature and Biodiversity in your locality.
Sustainability - Doing More with less.
